The CompAlliance Telephonic Triage Team recently added COVID-19 Triage Services – both occupational and non-occupational – to their range of workers’ compensation triage services.

This was a natural extension of the services we offer, and Linda and her team believe they can truly have an impact on cases when they are called at the time of injury.

Here is a brief Case Study on the impact our 24/7 Nurse Triage Team is making, particularly in the midst of this challenging time:

  • Employee reported a knee injury and was unable to stand on the leg without pain and was walking with a limp. After calling the Triage HotLine for the employer, an immediate referral was made to an in-network provider for evaluation on Friday (the Date of Injury).
  • The Provider refused to see Employee due to Employee having a cough (this is during the pandemic) that the EE related to sinus drainage.
  • The Employee contacted NurseNow for additional direction after the Provider refusal to evaluate.
  • The NurseNow Triage Case Manager researched the Employee’s location in relation to other in-network providers. Multiple calls were made to providers to facilitate employee evaluation. The NurseNow Triage Case Manager successfully secured and appointment for the next business day, Monday.
  • The NurseNow Triage Case Manager provided nursing recommendations for the Employee to utilize until her evaluation on Monday, thereby preventing the need to go to an Emergency Department in the interim.

Linda Lashley is the Supervisor of Triage Services at CompAlliance.

  1. What do you like best about your job?   Being able to use my nursing skills while having the flexibility of working from home.
  2. What is your biggest challenge at this time, and how are you overcoming this challenge?   Business as usual for me right now. I feel like I have been preparing for this my whole life. The only issue I have run into is sharing the WiFi with my children while home.
  3. What is one of your hobbies?  I love to cook and bake! Which may not necessarily be a good thing during a stay at home order.
  4. Are you also functioning as the principal at your home? I would call myself a ‘hall monitor’, my children’s school has done a fantastic job with e-learning that includes morning announcements from the principal.
  5. What is one positive you are experiencing during this time? I have truly enjoyed slowing down. With all the kid activities being cancelled, we have been able to cook all our meals, complete home projects and not feel stressed about getting from place to place on time. I am seriously considering cutting back future schedules.
  6. Do you have an insight or favorite poem, quote or thought you’d like to share? I rely on my faith. I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I do know who holds tomorrow.
  7. Is there a show or series you have been binge watching?  This is a big weakness of mine. I really like to binge shows at night when I get to my room without kids. I have watched Ozark, The Hunters, and of course, Tiger King!
  8. Is there a wish you have for when we get back to normal? Or, Can you think of one positive that will come out of this event?  I just want to go out and eat Mexican Food!!! 😊

  2. What you do for CompAlliance:  Triage Case Manager
  3. What do you like best about your job?   The flexibility of being able to work from home. We don’t see our customer’s but I feel like we do bond with some of the calls that we do take.
  4. What is your biggest challenge at this time, and how are you overcoming this challenge?   Daycare has been closed for a month now and I have a 3 year old that has been home with me since. I love getting to spend more time with my son, however, being together 24/7 with him is a big challenge, especially when I am working. The wonderful thing about this is that I do get to spend so much time with him to watch him grow, learn and he makes me laugh every day.
  5. What is one of your hobbies?  I love gardening, flower beds and yard work. I don’t have any prize winning flower beds or yard, but with 3 acres, I do stay busy.
  6. Are you also functioning as the principal at your home? I wear many hats at home on a daily basis, even before the pandemic. My husband works out of town a lot, so I basically do everything at home that needs to be done so that when my husband is home we get to spend time together.
  7. What is one positive you are experiencing during this time? Right now with the weather breaking, I am getting to spend more time outside and enjoying my hobbies and playing with my son. I absolutely love this as I missed out on my older kids growing up because I worked so far from home at that time.
  8. Do you have an insight or favorite poem, quote or thought you’d like to share? Just stay positive! Do what makes you happy, so you can keep good mental health during this difficult time.
  9. Is there a show or series you have been binge watching?  Not one series, but I have been trying to catch up on the shows I have on my DVR. I like reality shows and murder mysteries.
  10. Is there a wish you have for when we get back to normal? Or, Can you think of one positive that will come out of this event?  I will be ready to get to spend more time with my extended family and friends. I am missing that adult interaction, but I know that will make it more special when I do get to go back doing those things.
