National Case Management Week is October 11 – 17, 2020

The theme this year for National Case Management Week is Case Managers Can _______________.

Our Case Managers were asked to write their thoughts on this sentence. Margaret A. Thompson RN, BSN, CCM shares her thoughts below.

Case Managers Can Come Back for More – Growth and Learning.

Having my CCM has enabled me to feel more confident in my role as a nurse case manager. Being involved in the Case Management Society helps me to know there are other professionals out there just like me facing the many challenges, complexities and joy that case management brings.

One of the first lessons I learned as a new nurse is that you don’t choose patients, they choose you. As I have progressed throughout my nursing career, I have applied this to my role as a nurse case manager in those whose lives I have seen completely upended by horrific accidents yet begin to rebuild one step at a time.

Through every complex case handled I have learned something greater in return, and usually not the lesson I thought I would. Even though there can be many days where you feel as though you are going backwards more than forwards, it is the moments of growth & learning for both the patient and myself that keeps me coming back for more.

Thanks Margaret for this uplifting reminder of what Case Management is all about!
